WASHINGTON (AP) - The United States expressed concern Tuesday that a court in Ethiopia, a key ally in East Africa, had convicted more than three dozen people including opposition leaders in connection with election violence.
Three top leaders of the main opposition party, the Coalition for Unity and Democracy, were among those convicted after a trial that earned condemnation from human rights activists.
State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said that the U.S. was «quite surprised» and «very concerned.
